What Is The Average Penis Size Of A 14 Year Old

Concrete development scale of children, adolescents, and adults

Tanner scale
Synonyms Tanner stages
Purpose defines physical measurements of development

The Tanner scale (also known equally the Tanner stages or Sexual Maturity Rating (SMR)) is a scale of physical development in children, adolescents and adults. The calibration defines physical measurements of development based on external primary and secondary sex characteristics, such as the size of the breasts, genitals, testicular volume and development of pubic hair. This scale was outset identified in 1969 by James Tanner, a British pediatrician, afterward a two-decade-long study following the physical changes in girls undergoing puberty.[1] [2] [3] [4]

Due to natural variation, individuals pass through the Tanner stages at different rates, depending in item on the timing of puberty. Among researchers who study puberty, the Tanner scale is normally considered the "gilded standard" for assessing pubertal condition when it is conducted by a trained medical examiner.[5] In HIV handling, the Tanner calibration is used to determine which regimen to follow for pediatric or adolescent patients on antiretroviral therapy (adult, adolescent, or pediatric guidelines).[6] The Tanner scale has also been used in forensics to determine aging, but its usage has decreased due to lack of reliability.[7]

Stages [edit]

Genitals (male) [edit]

Illustration of the Tanner calibration for males.

Tanner I
testicular volume less than i.5 ml; small penis (prepubertal) - age 10 and younger
Tanner II
testicular book between i.six and six ml; peel on scrotum thins, reddens and enlarges; penis length unchanged - age 10 - 14
Tanner 3
testicular volume betwixt 6 and 12 ml; scrotum enlarges further; penis begins to lengthen - age 14 - 16
Tanner Four
testicular volume betwixt 12 and 20 ml; scrotum enlarges further and darkens; penis increases in length - historic period sixteen - 18
Tanner V
testicular book greater than 20 ml; adult scrotum and penis - age 18+

Breasts (female) [edit]

Tanner I
no glandular tissue: areola follows the skin contours of the chest (prepubertal) - age 9 and younger
Tanner II
breast bud forms, with small area of surrounding glandular tissue; areola begins to widen - age 9 - 13
Tanner 3
breast begins to become more elevated, and extends across the borders of the areola, which continues to widen but remains in contour with surrounding breast - age 13 - 15
Tanner IV
increased chest sizing and acme; areola and papilla form a secondary mound projecting from the contour of the surrounding chest - age 15 - 17
Tanner V
breast reaches final adult size; areola returns to contour of the surrounding breast, with a projecting fundamental papilla - age 17+

Pubic hair (both male and female) [edit]

Tanner I
no pubic hair at all (prepubertal)
Tanner II
small corporeality of long, featherlike pilus with slight pigmentation at the base of the penis and scrotum (males) or on the labia majora (females)
Tanner Iii
hair becomes more coarse and curly, and begins to extend laterally
Tanner IV
developed-like hair quality, extending across pubis only sparing medial thighs
Tanner V
hair extends to medial surface of the thighs

Pinnacle [edit]

Sometime during Tanner 5, females stop growing and reach their adult superlative. Commonly, this happens in their mid teens at 17 or 18 years for females. Males likewise stop growing and reach their adult height old during Tanner five, normally this happens in their tardily teens at 18–19 years for males.[9]

Criticism [edit]

The scale has been criticized by the pornography industry for its potential to pb to imitation child pornography convictions, such as in the case when United States federal government used it to assert that pornographic actress Lupe Fuentes was underage. Fuentes personally appeared at the trial and provided documentation that showed that the DVDs in question were legally produced.[10] [eleven]

Tanner, the author of the classification arrangement, has argued that historic period classification using the stages of the calibration misrepresents the intended use. Tanner stages exercise non match with chronological age, only rather maturity stages and thus are not diagnostic for historic period estimation.[12]
